Mark Jackson’s plan for Monta
Warriors coach, Mark Jackson, is planning some sets to get Monta Ellis down in the low post. I understand the low post is an isolation play for a very good offensive 1v1 player, but just can’t see the warriors getting anythgng good out of this!
I admit Ellis is a high powered guard with various abilities. However, the league’s average two guard has a body size that’s not the size of a point guard. Take the league’s most dominant two guards: Kobe, Allen, Wade, Carter, Hamilton, etc. Let alone only a select few have the capacity to effectively play in low post sets.
Chicago’s Ben Gordon era tried it; every time he drove in, he got hammered by the low post. You can argue that low post is different than a drive in and low post will attract double teams. However, I dont see Monta commanding double teams in the low post based purely on size. Stick to speed, Monta. Or get traded.
